CEPAD-Nigeria is airing curriculum-based lessons to pupils in Adamawa State, distributing rechargeable radio sets to 150 schools to facilitate listening.
The programme which will air on radio Gotel Yola is aimed at helping junior secondary pupils and out of school children in the state where Boko Haram insurgency displaced many and destroyed several schools.
The Executive Director, Centre for Public Education and Development in Nigeria (CEPAD-Nigeria), Maxwell Mamidu, who presented 300 radio sets to principals of the beneficiting schools in Yola on Sunday, said the project was being funded by MacAthur Foundation.
He said the Radio School Broadcast would deliver lessons in English, Mathematics, Basic Science and Civic Education to supplement classroom lessons and help bridge gaps in schools with manpower shortages.
According to Prof. Kaleptapwa Farauta, the Adamawa State Commissioner of Education who was represented by Tanko Musa, an assistant Director Basic Education in the ministry, the insurgency in the North East of which Adamawa is a part had adversely affected school attendance.
Farauta, while receiving the 300 rechargeable radios before their distribution to 150 principals drawn from different secondary schools in the state, said the school radio programme would enhance student performance and educational standards of students, especially those who had stayed away.
