Centre LSD holds a one-day policy dialogue on Achieving Effective Natural Resource Governance in Nigeria

The African Centre for Leadership, Strategy & Development (Centre LSD) in partnership with Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA), will on October 27th 2016 hold a one-day policy dialogue on Achieving Effective Natural Resource Governance in Nigeria.

The dialogue which will hold at Delight Hotels, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State today October 27, 2016. shall amongst other things deliberate on the content of state policies, the institutions that formulate and implement them with a view to examining the impact of the policies.

A statement by Ms. Ngozi Izuora, Women Rights Officer of the Centre, said the convening shall be diagnostic of the policy problems and suggest alternative approaches to dealing with the problems with focus on research findings of formal and informal mining in Nigeria with focus on Ekiti State.

The statement further said, the dialogue will have in attendance; influential Ekiti State law/policy makers, Traditional/Religious leaders, relevant State ministries, stakeholders including Representatives of Government, Representatives of Artisanal Mining Associations, Members of Civil Society, Representatives of Communities as well as members of the Media in attendance.

This project “strengthening civic engagement and advocacy for effective natural resource governance in Nigeria” is aimed at providing opportunity for citizens to contribute to the improvement of governance, transparency and accountability frameworks in extractive industries sector at national and local levels. Additionally, the project will advance Economic Justice through strengthening extractive industries regulatory and policy framework for the benefit of national economies and affected communities.
