CDD West Africa has officially inaugurated three Information Guard Networks (IGN) across Benue State to serve as a frontline defense against the spread of harmful narratives.
This initiative is a core component of the Strengthening Community Resilience Against Misinformation, Disinformation, and Hate Speech (MDH) Project, which is funded and supported by the Netherlands Embassy.
Strategic Grassroots Deployment
The project has successfully mobilized and united diverse community associations into specialized networks designed to identify, challenge, and dismantle misinformation at the local level. These networks are strategically located to ensure maximum coverage across the state’s cultural and political hubs:

Capacity Building and Sustainability
A vital pillar of the launch was the “Training of Trainers” (ToT) programme, which empowered local State Champions with the sophisticated tools and digital literacy required to maintain the project’s momentum. By focusing on skill transfer, CDD West Africa ensures that the fight against MDH is led by the community, for the community.
Fostering Regional Resilience
The establishment of these networks marks a significant step in building long-term social cohesion and public trust in Benue State. By creating a structure where grassroots leaders can actively monitor and correct false information, the project seeks to prevent the escalation of conflict often fueled by digital misinformation.
