The Bomb Victims’ Association of Nigeria (BVAN) in its press statement has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to open an inquiry in ascertaining the whereabouts of over 80billion naira raised by Committee of Victims support fund under the past administration of Goodluck Jonathan, to support victims of insurgency and Boko Haram terror all over the country.

BVAN added that hundreds and thousands of victims known to them are yet to benefit from the fund raised by the committee headed by Rtd.Gen. Theophilus Danjuma. According to the association, many victims have lost their lives due to their inability to cope with exorbitant medical bills and government’s negligence which led to the death of Hope Musa, a victim of the June 26th EMAB plaza bomb blast due to injuries sustained from the blast.

“The blast affected his brain and he was poorly managed which led to several episodes of convulsion until his death, as he could not afford to further his treatment for a neurosurgical operation abroad.”

The groups aimed at delivering the rights of vulnerable victims of bomb blasts, calls for an account on how the 80billion naira fund were disbursed and on whom the funds were spent with criteria used in disbursement. They also added that a framework be set up to make the fund available to real victims of bomb blast.

BVAN agitated that the association comprising of victims of insurgency and bomb blast terror be included in the committee of the Victims support fund. They added that the president should make efforts and strategies in stopping the insurgents and terror attacks.

“There must be a stop to this terror and deaths and we wish to condemn such attacks and pray that the president will be given the wisdom and support to battle them as soon as possible.”
