The State Governor, His Excellency Babagana Umara Zulum has reaffirmed the Borno State Government’s commitment to supporting the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in its mission to eradicate insurgency in the Lake Chad Basin.
The Governor gave this assurance while hosting the new Force Commander (FC), Major General Saidu Tanko Audu, who visited the state as part of a familiarization tour following his assumption of command on November 13, 2025.
Governor Zulum praised the MNJTF’s previous successes, specifically citing Operation Lake Sanity 1 & 2. However, he emphasized that the battle is not yet won. He urged the Force Commander to push deeper into the Tumbus the remote islands of Lake Chad which he described as ungoverned spaces where terrorists hibernate and regroup.
“We must deny these terrorists freedom of action,” Zulum stated, calling for permanent deployments on the Nigerian side of the islands to eliminate safe havens. Despite the state’s tightening budget, the Governor pledged continued logistical support to the military.
Major General Audu, describing the Governor as a critical stakeholder, unveiled a new strategy to take the fight directly to terrorist enclaves. He appreciated the previous support of the State Government towards operations of the MNJTF and called for continous support.
“The end is in sight for Boko Haram,” the General declared, promising to align MNJTF operations with the strategic goal of restoring total peace to the region.
