The #BringBackOurGirls movement today commemorated the 15th anniversary of Leah Sharibu’s birth.
Leah Sharibu is one of the 110 schoolgirls of Government Science and Technical College, Dapchi that were abducted on the evening of 19th February 2018.
Even though Nigerian government was able to regain 104 of the abducted schoolgirls on March 21st while others are not accounted for but report states that Leah was intentionally retained in detention because she insisted on not renouncing her religion, which is Christianity.
In a statement jointly signed by Oby Ezekwesili, Aisha Yesufu and Florence Ozor on behalf of BBOG, the movement solidarizes with Leah’s family as she marks 15th even though she is in Boko Haram’a detention.
They assured the parents that they are not alone although BBOG made bold to allege Federal Government of not neglecting Leah’s families with those other five people yet unaccountable for.
BBOG however demanded update on recovering the children inclusive of Leah, from the Federal Government.
“Our movement is extremely saddened and distraught on this 83rd day of her captivity, and the fact that the young teenager has had to mark her birthday in captivity with terrorists.
“Our movement wishes Leah Sharibu a happy birthday. We also demand a status update from the FG on Leah Sharibu. It is unconscionable that the family, community, and the public has gotten no updates since the Federal Govt made empty promises in March about prioritising her return”, BBOG strongly asserted.
The movement also stressed that her legal actions in pressurizing the Nigerian Government to take productive steps towards the abductees’ return are not relaxed.
The statement partly established thus:
“Our other related activities demanding for action of rescue of Leah, (as well as accounting for her 5 other colleagues) and our 112 #ChibokGirls shall continue until they are all given the justice of rescue they deserve by President Muhammadu Buhari and the federal government.
“Our movement’s legal actions against the federal government for the criminal negligence that resulted in the abduction of Leah Sharibu and her classmates proceeds”.
“We call on the federal government to return her immediately. There is no reason any arrangements with the terrorists should have left her out, in the first place”, BBOG ended.
