Nigerians have condemned the National Universities Commission for banning fifty-seven illegal degree awarding varsities, or any of its campuses.
They called for the removal and subsequent prosecution of the Executive Secretary, Julius Okojie, blaming him for inefficiency, wondering what the commission was doing.
Their comments came as Okojie, warned that certificates obtained from the illegal universities would not be accorded recognition for the purpose of election, seeking employment or doing business in the country.
Callers on Ekofm Newspaper Headlines Review, who commented on this, called on the Commission to reverse the ban and give room to the said varsities to do the needful.
According to them, failure of the Commission to reverse the ban will only demoralise students that are presently in the institutions or graduated.
They asked that where was the Commission when the institutions sprung up, as many had been in operation for years.
The Callers want the Commission to go back to the drawing board and look at other means of dealing with such varsities, including giving them time to formalise and register.
