The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday concluded its 8th National Convention at Eagle Square, Abuja, electing members of its National Working Committee (NWC) in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
The party adopted a consensus arrangement, with delegates endorsing a full slate of national officers to steer the affairs of the ruling party.
Among those elected are Ali Bukar Dalori as Deputy National Chairman (North) and Dr. Benjamin Obi Nwoye as Deputy National Chairman (South). Prof. AbdulKarim Abubakar Kana emerged as Deputy National Secretary, while Murtala Aliyu Kankia was named National Legal Adviser.
Other key positions include Uguru Mathew Ofoke as National Treasurer and Amb. Haruna Ginsau as Financial Secretary. The convention also produced Muhammad Sulaiman Argungu as National Organising Secretary, Donatus Enyinnah Nwankpa as National Welfare Secretary, and Felix Morka as National Publicity Secretary.
Further appointments saw Sen. Abubakar Maikafi emerge as National Auditor, Dr. Mary A. Idele as National Women Leader, while Dayo Israel retained his position as National Youth Leader. Aare Durotolu Oyebode Bankole was elected National Leader for Persons with Disabilities.
Several deputy national officers were also announced, alongside zonal ex-officio representatives drawn from across the country, reflecting the party’s geopolitical spread.
In a notable development, Dr. Benjamin Obi Nwoye replaced Emma Eneukwu as Deputy National Chairman (South) following consultations and zoning considerations, with Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State reportedly playing a significant role in the decision.
Speaking after his re-election, a party leader, Yilwatda, described the outcome as a call to greater service, pledging unity and commitment to party growth.
“We are ready to serve, ready to lead, and we are ready to build the party, together with the nation,” he said, assuring members that the NWC would not fail or falter in delivering on its mandate.
The convention attracted over 8,000 delegates, including top party figures such as Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Kashim Shettima, governors, lawmakers, and other stakeholders.
Addressing attendees, Tinubu expressed optimism about the country’s direction, stating that Nigeria is “on the right track.” He pointed to reforms in the oil and gas sector, an oversubscribed Eurobond issuance, and the country’s exit from the financial grey list as indicators of growing investor confidence.
Also speaking, Bello Masari, chairman of the APC National Convention Planning Committee, declared the party’s readiness for the next general elections.
“In terms of popularity, APC is number one, whatever the permutations. As a party, we are very ready,” Masari said.
