Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State yesterday, approved the appointment of Mrs. Abimbola Shukrat Umar both as the new Accountant-General and Permanent Secretary, State Treasury Office.
Umar, prior to the new appointment, was the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
She obtained a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Economics in 1983, from the University of Ibadan (UI). She later acquired a Masters of Science in Corporate Governance in 2013 from Leeds Metropolitan University, Leeds, United Kingdom (UK).
Umar is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria and Nigeria Economic Society respectively.
In the private sector, Umar had recorded over 15 years in the private sector including the KPMG International before securing a job with the Lagos State Civil Service as Chief Accountant in 2002.
According to the governor, her appointment takes effect immediately.
Governor Ambode also approved the dissolution of all Boards of Parastatals and Agencies of Government in the state.
In a statement signed by Habib Aruna, Chief Press Secretary, the governor noted that the dissolution of the boards also takes immediate effect.
The Civil Service Commission, Judicial Service Commission and the State Independent Electoral Commission were however exempted from the governor’s decision.
Governor Ambode also commended the modest contributions of the members of the dissolved Boards, just as he wished them well in their future endeavours.
