When it comes to effective ways of running business, African business leaders have been said to be more hopeful about the business operating environment outlook than their peers globally.
Taiwo Oyedele, Partner at PwC Nigeria said this recently.
Oyedele said his organisation’s recent survey demonstrated this trend.
“This is a survey we carry every year globally, and now for the 5th year we have a survey where we consulted with African business leaders,” he said.
“We ask business leaders across industries in the region about the business operating environment. Even though we see challenges globally with the global economy, African business leaders” were more positive – their glass was half full and not half empty.
Oyedele added that recent technological shifts had contributed to Africa’s fortunes.
“A lot has to do with technology and awareness; people are more dynamic now more than before an example is now in the telecoms sector where innovators see beyond mobile phones to banking,” he said.
He also said other opportunities existed in construction and infrastructure development.
“If you want to provide cement at a mass scale, as mentioned in the PwC report, one has to look at areas like housing and road construction as waiting for the government might be a lifetime.”
Oyedele said, unlike in the past, financial performance was no longer the factor that highly skilled people were looking for when looking for jobs.
“The most talented people are looking for reputation and values of a company they can associate with, beyond remuneration being paid in the marketplace.”
