The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has officially flagged off the pilot phase of the Adopt-A-School PBAT Feeds Programme, themed “Snacks for Thought,” at the Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area (LCDA). The initiative is designed to ensure that no child in the state is forced to learn on an empty stomach, while simultaneously driving up classroom attendance and academic performance.
Describing the initiative as a transformative partnership, Governor Sanwo-Olu noted that the project is strategically positioned to improve children’s nutrition, enhance classroom learning outcomes, and strengthen long-term human capital development across Lagos.
A Unified Vision for Nigerian Children
The Governor, who was represented at the event by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. ‘Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, expressed pride that Lagos State was selected to host the pilot phase of this landmark national initiative. The scheme operates under the umbrella of the Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme.
“This initiative is more than a school feeding programme; it is a movement founded on the belief that no child should be denied the opportunity to learn because of hunger, and that every stakeholder has a responsibility to invest in the nation’s future through its children,” Sanwo-Olu stated.
The Governor highly commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his visionary leadership and commitment to policies that prioritise education and nutrition under the Renewed Hope Agenda. He also extended appreciation to the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her unwavering advocacy for vulnerable groups, women, and children.
Boosting Health and the Local Economy
Beyond the immediate nutritional benefits to students, the “Snacks for Thought” programme is structured to serve as a catalyst for community-based economic expansion. By focusing heavily on local food sourcing, the initiative intends to stimulate financial growth for local farmers, caterers, food processors, and small business owners.
According to the Governor, nutritiously fed children are far more likely to attend school regularly, participate actively in lessons, and ultimately realise their full potential. The economic ripple effect will simultaneously strengthen agricultural value chains while providing direct, structural support to the educational sector.
A Call for Private Sector Adoption
Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed that education and human capital development remain foundational pillars of his administration’s THEMES+ Agenda. He pointed to ongoing state investments in modern classrooms, digital learning infrastructure, teacher development, and robust school health programmes as proof of this commitment.
However, to scale these benefits, the Governor made an urgent appeal to corporate organisations, financial institutions, charitable foundations, faith-based bodies, and alumni associations to partner with the state by adopting public primary schools. He expressed strong optimism that through these strategic investments, every public primary school in Lagos State would eventually secure a dedicated partner.
Transparency Through Digital Innovation
To facilitate seamless collaboration, the state government has introduced the Adopt-A-School Dashboard, a digital platform designed to promote total transparency, accountability, and public trust. The innovation allows corporate sponsors and private individuals to identify schools in need, monitor project implementation, and track the real-time impact of their interventions.
Prospective partners are urged to register on the platform by scanning the programme’s official QR Code to begin adopting schools. Assuring stakeholders of a frictionless experience, Governor Sanwo-Olu confirmed that all relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) have been mandated to work hand-in-hand with programme coordinators to guarantee that every genuine partnership delivers measurable benefits for the children of Lagos.
