Former Nigeria’s International, Babs Ogunade, has condemned the exclusion of the nation’s domestic basketball players from the final list of D’Tigers to the just concluded Afrobasket Championship in Tunisia.
Nigeria’s D’Tigers, a team comprising of foreign based basketball players, defeated Angola to win its first ever Afrobasket Championship without a basketball player from the DSTV/NBBF League.
Chairman, Lagos State Basketball Association, said it was disheartening that none of the League players were included in the final list of D’Tigers to the championship in Tunisia, saying the move indicated that the nation did not have credible home based basketball players.
Ogunade said the pride of the sponsor was to see a product of the league playing for the nation’s senior basketball team as it would motivate it to invest, restructure and increase its stake in adding values to the sport.
While explaining that Nigerian baskestball players had the right to vie for a position in the national team, Ogunade said excluding the domestic league players from the D’Tigers could dampen the players morale.
