The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially adjusted its primary election timetable, granting a reprieve to aspirants seeking various offices in the 2027 General Elections. The decision was ratified by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) during a high-profile meeting held on Thursday at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.

New Timelines and Deadlines

Under the revised schedule, the window for the purchase of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms has been shifted from its original closing date of May 2 to a new deadline of midnight on Monday, May 4, 2026.

Furthermore, the party has extended the deadline for the submission of completed forms and all supporting documentation. Aspirants now have until midnight on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, to return their files to the party secretariat, providing an extra 24 hours beyond the initial cutoff.

Reasons for the Adjustment

The party cited the recent nationwide public holiday and a significant surge in interest from prospective candidates as the primary drivers behind the extension. Party leadership noted that the pause in administrative activities during the holiday necessitated a shift to ensure no aspirant is disenfranchised.

Speaking to the press following the NWC session, the APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Durosinmi Meseko, emphasized that the move was aimed at ensuring a seamless and inclusive process.

“The need to extend the dates became necessary because of the public holiday observed nationwide on Friday and to accommodate the high level of interest from aspirants across the country,” Meseko stated.

The Shift from Original Schedule

Prior to this announcement, the exercise was slated to be a strictly eight-day affair, running from Saturday, April 25, to Saturday, May 2. The original submission deadline had been set for Monday, May 4. By pushing these dates forward, the APC leadership aims to manage the logistical pressure at the national secretariat caused by the heavy influx of aspirants in the final days of the exercise.
