2027: David Mark Charges ADC Candidates to Shun Hate Speech, Empty Promises

The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has charged the party’s governorship candidates to shun hate speech, ethnic and religious profiling, violence and empty promises as they begin preparations for the 2027 general elections.

Mark gave the charge on Monday in Abuja during a consultation meeting with the party’s governorship candidates from across the states.

He urged the candidates to ensure that their campaigns reflected the values and kind of country the ADC seeks to build, warning that unfulfilled promises could undermine the integrity of the party.

Mark also cautioned the candidates against making promises they do not intend to fulfil if elected, saying political campaigns should be guided by honesty and accountability.

“We are ADC. Our campaign must reflect the kind of country that we would like to build. Avoid hate speech, ethnic or religious profiling. We cannot be associated with violence in whatever form,” he said.

The ADC chairman further urged the candidates to familiarise themselves with the party’s Governance and Ethical Principles contained in its ‘Orange Book’, as well as its manifesto.

David Mark Urges Candidates to Uphold ADC’s Ethical Principles

Mark said the conduct of the party’s candidates during the electioneering period would be important to protecting the image and credibility of the ADC.

He urged them to maintain issue-based campaigns and avoid statements or actions capable of promoting division among Nigerians.

The ADC chairman said ethnic and religious profiling had no place in the party’s campaign, stressing that the party should not be associated with violence in any form.

He also warned against empty promises, noting that candidates must be prepared to deliver on commitments made to voters if they eventually secure public office.

According to him, the party’s campaign must reflect its vision for a better Nigeria and demonstrate the values contained in its governance and ethical principles.

Mark therefore encouraged the candidates to study the ADC’s ‘Orange Book’ and manifesto and allow the documents to guide their campaigns and engagements with voters.

ADC Candidates Pledge Loyalty, Promise to Win 2027 Elections

The governorship candidates took turns to express appreciation to the ADC for providing them with the platform to contest the 2027 elections.

They expressed satisfaction with the party’s decision to give them the opportunity to seek elective offices under its platform.

The candidates also pledged their loyalty to the party and promised to work towards securing victory in their respective states.

They said they were committed to making the ADC proud and strengthening the party’s chances in the 2027 general elections.

The candidates’ commitments came as the party begins preparations for campaigns and other activities ahead of the elections.

They also expressed support for the direction of the party’s campaign and the priorities outlined by its leadership.

Candidates Back ADC’s Plan to Cut Cost of Living

The governorship candidates expressed support for the ADC’s plan to make the reduction of the cost of living a major focus of its 2027 campaign.

They particularly backed the party’s position on reducing fuel costs, including its proposal to bring back fuel subsidy as part of measures to ease the financial burden on Nigerians.

The candidates said addressing the rising cost of living should remain a major priority as political parties engage voters ahead of the 2027 elections.

They expressed delight that the ADC and its presidential candidate had chosen to place the welfare of Nigerians at the centre of the party’s campaign agenda.

The candidates pledged to communicate the party’s policies and priorities to voters while conducting their campaigns in line with the ethical principles of the ADC.

They also promised to work collectively to strengthen the party’s presence across the states and pursue victory in the 2027 general elections.
