The Electoral Institute (TEI) has conducted a Training-of-Trainers (ToT) workshop in preparation for the February 21st, 2026, Area Council elections in the Federal Capital Territory and bye-elections in Kano and Rivers States. The session, held on Monday, February 4th, aimed to equip master trainers with the skills to effectively cascade electoral procedures to poll officials nationwide.

Professor Kunle Ajayi, Chairman of the TEI Board, underscored the program’s critical nature, urging full participation. “I emphasize the importance of your active engagement and commitment,” Ajayi stated. “Absorb every detail, as your efforts will contribute significantly to the success of the elections.”
The Acting Director General of TEI, Professor Ibrahim Sani, highlighted the weight of public expectation. “Public expectations for these elections are extremely high,” Sani said. “Your role is crucial to achieving free, fair, and credible elections.”
Officials also stressed the need for practical, technology-focused training. Alhaji Aminu Kasimu Idris, the FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner, urged facilitators to prioritize hands-on experience. “Make the training sessions as practical as possible,” Idris emphasized, “particularly with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and other e-learning platforms.”
The Director of Operations, Magaji Isa Gummi, expressed confidence in the selected participants from various departments, noting that their collaboration would foster a successful electoral process.
The training cascade will continue with sessions for Supervisory Presiding Officers scheduled for February 6th-8th, followed by training for Presiding Officers and Assistant Presiding Officers from February 13th-15th across the FCT, Kano, and Rivers States.
