The Executive Director of Yiaga Africa, Samson Itodo, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to urgently release the new Regulations and Guidelines for the conduct of elections ahead of the Ekiti State governorship poll scheduled for June 2026.
He raised the concern in a statement, noting that the delay comes just 25 days to the election.
According to him, the new Electoral Act 2026 requires INEC to issue detailed Regulations and Guidelines that will guide the implementation of key provisions of the law, particularly on electronic transmission of results, procedures in cases of communication failure, and collation processes on election day.
Itodo warned that the absence of the guidelines at this stage could create uncertainty for stakeholders, including political parties, observers, security agencies, and voters.
He stressed that timely publication of the document is critical to strengthening public confidence in the electoral process and ensuring adequate preparation by all stakeholders ahead of the poll.
He added that the guidelines would serve as the operational framework for election officials, especially on sensitive areas such as result management and technology use during the election.
The Yiaga Africa boss also called on INEC to engage stakeholders in the development of the regulations, particularly on new or potentially contentious provisions.
According to him, stakeholder input would help improve transparency and strengthen the legitimacy and acceptability of the final document.
He further noted that inclusive consultation would reduce disputes and improve trust in the electoral process ahead of the Ekiti governorship election.
Itodo maintained that the timely release of the guidelines remains essential to ensuring a credible, transparent, and well-managed election in Ekiti State.
