The Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) has officially announced a call for applications for its latest specialized training programme. Operating under the Collaborative Media Project (CMP), the initiative is designed to empower local journalists with advanced skills to ensure their reportage leads to tangible social change and government accountability.
The programme, titled “RUSH for Local Journalists: Strengthening Follow-up for Accountability Reporting,” targets reporters who want to move beyond the initial publication of a story. It focuses on the afterlife of an investigation, providing the technical tools necessary to track impact and demand responses from those in power.
Driving Systemic Change Through Journalism
Organizers emphasized that investigative reporting is only the first step in the journey toward justice. To bridge the gap between exposure and resolution, the WSCIJ highlighted that a systematic approach to follow-up is essential for any journalist hoping to see their work result in measurable community improvements.
“For every journalist out there who desires to make an impact with his or her stories, beyond investigative reporting, the approach to make effective change with your reports remains sacrosanct and systemic,” the statement stated.
