As part of activities to commemorate the 2016 World Water Day, YOUTHWASH Initiative Africa, a Non-Governmental organisation (NGO) will next week host youth across the country at a forum and concert to discuss issues of water and sanitation.
The 2016 World Water Day has as its theme: Water and Jobs.
The 2-day event is scheduled to commence on the 21st March 2016 with a forum at the Silverbird Galleria Central Area Abuja between 9am and 5pm.
Events will be concluded on the 22nd of March 2016 with the Music4WASH concert, an open air event also at Silverbird Galleria space from 2pm to 7pm.
The forum and concert is a joint collaboration of Federal Ministry of Water Resources with support from African Ministers Council on Water (AMCOW) and WaterAid Nigeria.
World Water Day, a United Nations (UN) recognized day is held annually on 22 March as a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.
According to Nature Obiakor, National Coordinator, YouthWASH Network Africa ‘The forum will be the first platform of its kind in Nigeria to discuss problems facing youth participation in exploring water and jobs opportunity, showcasing opportunities for youth engagement in water and jobs and empowering youth towards developing social solutions for water sustainability, sanitation and hygiene targeting jobs creation and entrepreneurship development.’
