‎The Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences, College of Medicine, University of Lagos, has drawn the battle line against medical misdiagnosis in Nigeria, unveiling its maiden Scientific Conference as a direct response to treatment errors that continue to claim lives across the country.
‎
‎In what organisers called a direct strike at treatment errors, the three-day event slated for June 23–25, 2026, would drive “precision in practice” by forcing stronger links between diagnostics, therapeutics, and clinical judgment. Established only nine months ago, the faculty described the event as its first major public demonstration of a mandate to connect laboratory science with bedside care and fix systemic gaps that weaken patient outcomes.
‎
‎Addressing journalists at a press conference held at the CMUL Idi-Araba Campus on Wednesday, Conference Chair, Professor Titilope Adeyemo, said the three-day gathering would move Nigerian healthcare “beyond isolated efforts to a coordinated system where diagnostics, treatment, and clinical expertise work seamlessly together to improve patient outcomes.” The conference, themed: “Precision in Practice: Integrating Diagnostics, Therapeutics, and Clinical Insights for Patient-Centered Care,” will feature plenary sessions, technical panels, and multidisciplinary engagements with academia, industry and policymakers.
‎
‎Professor Adeyemo described the conference as CMUL’s first platform to present the depth of medical science and academia being cultivated at the College to a global audience. “This is about people and progress. It is an opportunity to showcase the individuals who define Medilag our professors, students, and alumni many of whom are leading across industries worldwide,” she said.
‎
‎Dean of the Faculty, Professor Fatimah Abdulkareem, told the press that the new faculty was formalising decades of work that had produced some of Nigeria’s finest medical professionals. She stressed that the conference would reposition the faculty as a hub for precision medicine, driven by innovation and grounded in African realities.
‎
‎“The theme challenges us to move beyond silos and ensure that research, diagnostics, and clinical decision-making are better aligned in delivering quality care. We are deliberate about building a culture of excellence, collaboration, and relevance,” Abdulkareem said. She added that the event would include community-focused outreach and recognition of retired colleagues who laid the foundation for the faculty, College and University.
‎
‎Co-Chair, Dr. Abdulwasiu Adeniyi Busari, representing the faculty’s alumni community, called the conference a homecoming of excellence that would reconnect graduates leading in clinical practice, research and industry globally. “Basic Clinical Sciences must not be confined to foundational learning. They should actively shape clinical decisions, treatment outcomes, and patient experiences,” Busari said.
‎
‎Executive Director, Health Business Academy for Africa, Mr. Wale Olajubu, a key partner, said the future of healthcare would be shaped by how well science, systems and strategy connect. “Our role is to ensure conversations here translate into better systems, stronger institutions, and better patient outcomes. This is a platform for alignment academia, industry and policy to solve real problems,” he noted.
‎
‎Other dignitaries at the press briefing included Provost, Professor Ademola Oremosu; Deputy Provost, Professor Daniel Odebiyi; Co-Chair, Dr. Olayemi Dawodu; and Communication Sub-Committee Lead, Dr. Lawal Bakare of the Federal Ministry of Health. Other senior lecturers and professors from the Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences were also present.
‎
‎The organisers said the conference would promote collaborative diagnosis, integrated virtual and physical clinical training, and the use of AI and machine learning as teaching and clinical support tools. Structured follow-on engagements, executive sessions and strategic collaborations are planned to extend the conference impact beyond the event.
‎
‎The FBCS Inaugural Conference 2026 will hold at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Idi-Araba, Lagos.
