A government-owned primary healthcare centre serving more than 2,800 people in Majaga, Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, is operating without several basic facilities, according to civic accountability organisation Tracka.
Tracka said a recent monitoring visit to Majaga Primary Health Centre (PHC) revealed serious infrastructure and service gaps that could put residents at risk and limit access to essential healthcare.
PHC Lacks Water, Pharmacy and Laboratory
According to Tracka, the facility has no water supply, pharmacy, laboratory or injection room, while its labour and consulting rooms are in poor condition.
The organisation also reported that the health centre has inadequate beds, no wards and no staff quarters, raising concerns about its capacity to provide safe and effective healthcare to the community.
Tracka said the findings are particularly concerning because Majaga PHC is the only government health facility serving a population of more than 2,800 people in the area.
Poor Facilities Could Put Lives at Risk
The civic group warned that the condition of the facility could have serious consequences for residents, particularly pregnant women and other patients requiring immediate medical attention.
“What you should see when you see a facility like this is: unsafe deliveries, people unable to access proper healthcare when they should, and a daily risk to lives,” Tracka said.
