President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commiserated with the Ogun State Government and the Onabanjo family over the passing of Chief Lucia Onabanjo, former First Lady of Ogun State and matriarch of the Onabanjo family.
Chief Lucia Onabanjo, wife of the first civilian Governor of Ogun State, Chief Victor Olabisi Onabanjo, passed away on Monday, January 12, at the age of 101.
In a condolence message, President Tinubu extended his sympathies to the family, friends, and associates of the late matriarch, describing her as a woman whose life was marked by compassion, service, and deep commitment to the wellbeing of others.
The President noted that Chief Lucia Onabanjo made lasting investments in the lives of many within her community, Ogun State, and the nation at large, a legacy he said was reflected in the outpouring of tributes following her passing.
“Lucia Onabanjo’s strong support for her husband during his tenure as Governor of Ogun State from 1979 to 1983 was commendable, and her keen interest in issues concerning children and the empowerment of women was exemplary,” President Tinubu said.
He added that her legacy of kindness, charity, and selfless service would continue to resonate long after her passing.
President Tinubu urged the Ogun State Government and members of the Onabanjo family to immortalise her by projecting and sustaining her enduring legacy of love and care for the poor and vulnerable in society.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul and asked God to grant her family the strength and fortitude to bear the loss.
The President concluded by reaffirming the nation’s appreciation for the life and contributions of Chief Lucia Onabanjo, describing her as a pillar of support and an enduring symbol of compassion and service.
