Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has directed security agencies to identify and arrest those responsible for the vandalism of the Festac-Alakija Bridge.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, the governor condemned the incident, describing the vandalism of public infrastructure as a criminal act that would not be tolerated by the state government.

Sanwo-Olu said officials of the Office of Infrastructure who inspected the bridge after the incident confirmed that its structural integrity remained intact.

“I have been informed by officials of the Office of Infrastructure who visited the bridge that the structural integrity of the bridge is intact and remedial work will be executed immediately to protect the columns,” he said.

The governor warned that anyone found culpable in the vandalism would face the law, stressing that Lagos would not tolerate attacks on critical infrastructure and other public facilities.

He described the incident as “horrendous, shameful and condemnable,” adding that the state had no place for what he called barbaric acts against public infrastructure.

Sanwo-Olu also urged Lagos residents to remain vigilant and keep an eye on public facilities to help protect them from vandalism and other forms of damage.

The state government said remedial work would be carried out immediately to protect the affected bridge columns, while security agencies have been directed to go after those responsible for the vandalism.
