Health officials from Oyo State Ministry of Health, World Health Organisation, University College Hospital and other development partners have put plans together to curtail measles outbreak in the state.
The disease has so far claimed one life in Sabo area of Ibadan,the state capital.
A statement by the ministry’s Acting Director, Public Health, Dr Taiwo Ladipo blamed the only case of death on the failure of parents to seek medical attention when they noticed the child’s condition.
He said the ministry was first notified of the of the outbreak on January 11 which prompted them to move into the area the following day for proper investigation and intervention.
Within a week of action, he said that 32 suspected cases of measles were identified in the area and are now been managed by health personnel.
He called on the members of the public to collaborate with health personnel by promptly reporting any case of measles or outbreak of other contagious diseases.

“In collaboration with Ibadan North Local Government Area, the ministry and partners commenced community outreaches for prevention and management of measles at Sabo on January 14, with additional awareness campaign through the media” he noted.
To reduce escalation of the disease, Oladipo advised residents to reduce overcrowding and seek prompt medical attention once symptoms were noticed.
