In a major move to modernize Nigeria’s health sector, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) have entered a high-level strategic partnership aimed at digitizing the nation’s primary healthcare system.
The collaboration was solidified during a visit by the Executive Director and CEO of NPHCDA, Dr. Muyi Aina, to the NITDA headquarters, where he was received by the Director General, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi.
Leveraging Emerging Tech for Health
The engagement focused on integrating emerging technologies into the primary healthcare value chain. By moving away from traditional paper-based systems, the agencies aim to foster real-time, data-driven decision-making and improve overall health outcomes for Nigerians.
The discussions explored how digital tools can streamline service delivery, ensuring that even the most rural clinics can benefit from enhanced transparency and efficiency.
Alignment with National Mandates
The partnership is anchored in NITDA’s Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan (SRAP 2.0) and aligns directly with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The goal is to synchronize NPHCDA’s operational mandate with a robust digital transformation framework that prioritizes human-centric technology.
“Our goal is to position technology as a core pillar for improving healthcare access. By aligning our digital transformation framework with the NPHCDA’s mandate, we can ensure that every Nigerian benefits from a more accountable and efficient healthcare system,” stated Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, DG of NITDA.
A Future of Accountable Healthcare
Both leadership teams expressed a shared commitment to making accountability and accessibility the hallmarks of the new system. By leveraging NITDA’s technical expertise, the NPHCDA seeks to build a resilient infrastructure where health data is utilized effectively to combat diseases and manage medical resources nationwide.
This synergy marks a pivotal step in the federal government’s efforts to bridge the digital divide in the health sector, ensuring that technology serves as a bridge to better living standards for all citizens.
