In commemoration of the World AIDS Day, an NGO based in Bauchi state, AD Rufai Foundation has conducted free HIV/AIDS test and counselling for over 350 Internally Displaced Persons(IDPs) in the state.
The IDPs are taking refuge at the Boto Camp in Tafawa Balewa Local Government of the state.
Speaking at the exercise, the coordinator of the NGO, Hajiya Halima Ibrahim Maigari said that the gesture was to encourage the IDPs know their health status.
She added that those found positive will be given proper counselling and put on drugs.
Calling on other NGOs and wealthy individuals to assist the IDPs, she noted that the NGO was also working in the area of women empowerment and skill acquisition.
Hajiya Halima said further that the NGO also assists children whose parents had died of HIV/AIDS.
Meanwhile, Governor of Bauchi state has disclosed that the government in collaboration with 44 donor agencies is offering various supports to people living with HIV/AIDS.
Represented by his wife, Hajiya Hadiza, Mohammed Abubakar said the state government as well as development partners and international donor agencies are working out modalities to end HIV/AIDS by the year 2030.
He bared that over 11,000 people living with the virus are on anti-retroviral drugs across the state.
