The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has commenced the direct distribution of relief materials to victims of recent fire outbreaks across several communities in the Enugu North/South Federal Constituency.
The intervention, which took place on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, targeted affected residents in Ugwuaji, Ogbete, and Ngwo. The distribution followed comprehensive assessments by NEMA officials which documented the loss of property, trade goods, and livelihoods within numerous households.
The exercise was coordinated by the NEMA Enugu Operations Office in partnership with the Enugu State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the Nigerian Red Cross Society to ensure the equitable delivery of items to the identified victims.
Representing the NEMA Head of Operations, Mrs. Shantel Chukwu expressed the condolences of the Federal Government and the Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar. She urged the beneficiaries to remain resilient and reaffirmed the government’s dedication to assisting citizens affected by disasters.
“The Federal Government remains committed to supporting victims of disasters,” Chukwu stated during the ceremony.
Honourable Chimobi Sam Atu, the Member representing Enugu North/Enugu South Federal Constituency, commended the agency for its swift action. He noted that the timely arrival of the relief materials provided essential support to constituents who had suffered significant losses.
“NEMA’s support provided renewed relief and encouragement to victims at a critical time when many had lost hope of recovery,” Atu said.
The distribution was witnessed by Community Presidents General (PGs) and other local stakeholders, alongside representatives from the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA).
