The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has announced the opening of entries for the 10th edition of its Annual National Undergraduate Essay Competition, giving undergraduate students an opportunity to develop ideas on strengthening local content and manufacturing in Nigeria’s energy sector.
Entries for the competition will open on August 15, with students in 100 and 200 levels of Nigerian universities, polytechnics and colleges of education eligible to participate.
The theme for this year’s competition is “Promoting Manufacturing for Sustainable Local Content Development.”
The topic challenges students to examine how Nigeria can strengthen local manufacturing capacity, support economic growth and reduce dependence on imported goods and services, particularly within the energy sector.
Competition Targets Young Nigerians
The NCDMB said the competition is designed to encourage critical thinking, research and innovation among young Nigerians while creating an opportunity for students to engage with issues affecting the country’s industrial and energy development.
According to a press statement signed by Eyinimi Omorozi, Managing Director and Project Consultant, the competition is also aimed at improving students’ research abilities and developing skills that can help them contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s energy industry.
The Board said the initiative goes beyond academic competition by encouraging students to develop practical ideas that can support local manufacturing, industrialisation and sustainable development.
Students to Submit Entries Online
Interested students will be required to submit their essays through the competition portal, www.ncdmbessay.ng, once the application window opens on August 15.
The competition will end with an award ceremony scheduled for October 22 at the NCDMB headquarters in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Outstanding participants will be recognised for their contributions and ideas on local content development.
Over the years, the NCDMB Annual National Undergraduate Essay Competition has provided a platform for young scholars to examine national development challenges and propose solutions.
The 10th edition is expected to further encourage undergraduate students to engage with Nigeria’s local content agenda and explore how stronger domestic manufacturing can contribute to a more resilient energy sector and economy.
