The Lagos State Government, through Health District III, has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening quality healthcare delivery across all Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) in Ibeju-Lekki, Eti-Osa, and Epe.
The initiative is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to ensure that residents at the grassroots level have access to reliable and affordable medical services.
Rigorous Evaluation of Community Health Facilities
Speaking during a three-day Quality Improvement Programme (QIP) monitoring exercise conducted from Monday to Wednesday, the Permanent Secretary of Health District III, Dr. Monsurat Adeleke, explained that the assessment was designed to evaluate service quality, identify operational gaps, and enhance healthcare delivery at the grassroots.
The comprehensive exercise evaluated seven critical service delivery points in each facility. These core areas included Medical Services, Nursing Services, Pharmaceutical Services, Community Health Services, Laboratory Services, Medical Records Services, and Environmental Health Services.
Positive Assessments and Stock Availability
Dr. Adeleke revealed that the monitoring exercise yielded encouraging outcomes, with many facilities maintaining functional governance structures. These include Ward Health Committees, Health Facility Management Teams, and Quality Assurance Teams, which are vital for maintaining high operational standards and efficient service delivery.
Furthermore, the evaluation confirmed that family planning commodities, vaccines, and essential medicines were adequately stocked across the visited facilities. Dr. Adeleke also highlighted that most centres showed active implementation of recommendations from previous Quality Assurance visits, signaling a growing culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Sustained Investment and Community Ownership
The Lagos State Government remains dedicated to sustaining investments in primary healthcare infrastructure, personnel, equipment, and essential commodities to ensure safe and affordable medical access within local communities. Dr. Adeleke urged residents to actively support these government efforts by utilizing and protecting the facilities.
“I would like to implore residents to take ownership of the Primary Healthcare Centres in their communities by protecting public health assets, supporting health programmes, and making use of the available services to continually build a healthier and more resilient Lagos,” Dr. Adeleke said.
