The Lagos State Government has officially cleared the air regarding the status of the Senator Oluremi Tinubu (SOT) Primary Health Centre in Dolphin Estate, Ikoyi, affirming that the facility remains a wholly government-funded institution and has not been privatized.
This clarification comes following reports of low patronage from the local community, fueled by misconceptions that the recently renovated center had been handed over to private interests.
Dispelling Privatization Rumors
Speaking during a quarterly monitoring tour of health facilities, the Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Health District III, Dr. Monsurat Adeleke, addressed the decline in patient visits. She noted that while the facility underwent extensive reconstruction last year to meet world-class standards, it remains dedicated to public service.
“The facility is still funded by the Lagos State government and was renovated to improve access to high-quality healthcare service delivery in the community. I want to inform you all that some of the services are free and other services that involve payment are highly subsidised,” Dr. Adeleke stated.
Monitoring for Transparency and Quality
The visit to the SOT Primary Health Centre marked the conclusion of a monitoring exercise covering all 67 PHCs within District III. According to Dr. Adeleke, these inspections are vital to fulfilling Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s mandate of ensuring no facility is left behind in the state’s health sector evolution.
During these tours, the District III team conducts rigorous reviews of price lists, transparency protocols, and accountability measures to ensure that healthcare remains affordable and standardized across the board.
Alignment with the THEMES Plus Agenda
The government’s commitment to the facility is a key component of the THEMES Plus Agenda, which prioritizes universal health coverage. Dr. Adeleke emphasized that the state is intensifying efforts to enroll more residents in the Lagos State Health Insurance (LASHMA) Scheme, popularly known as ILERA EKO.
The SOT PHC is a designated provider for the ILERA EKO scheme, designed to ensure that no resident is denied life-saving medical care due to a lack of funds.

To encourage residents to return to the facility, the government highlighted a comprehensive suite of medical services currently available which are General Outpatient and Emergency Services, Immunization and Child Welfare, Ante-Natal Care and Delivery Services, Family Planning and Laboratory Services, and Pharmaceutical Services.
