The Lagos State Government has partnered with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to strengthen Early Childhood Development (ECD) through strategic interventions aimed at improving the wellbeing and future prospects of children across the state.
The partnership was highlighted during an expert meeting on the development of the Lagos Renewed Hope Baby Support (RHBS) Implementation Blueprint, organised by the Office of the Vice President in collaboration with the Lagos State Government and UNICEF.
Representing the Special Adviser to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals, Dr. Oreoluwa Finnih, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Sustainable Development Goals, Mrs. Kaphayah Olayemi Sarumi, delivered the keynote address at the meeting.
Sarumi reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to investing in children, noting that every child deserves the opportunity to survive, thrive and reach their full potential through access to essential services.
The meeting focused on developing a practical and scalable framework for implementing the Renewed Hope Baby Support Initiative, with emphasis on improving birth registration, healthcare access, nutrition, education and social protection for children.
Participants stressed the importance of prioritising investments in children from birth, describing Early Childhood Development as a critical foundation for building human capital and securing sustainable development.
The collaboration between Lagos State, UNICEF and other stakeholders is expected to strengthen coordinated efforts towards ensuring that children receive the necessary support during their early years.
The state government said the initiative aligns with its broader commitment to human capital development and creating opportunities that allow every child to achieve their full potential.
The Lagos Renewed Hope Baby Support Implementation Blueprint is expected to provide a roadmap for effective delivery of child-focused programmes and strengthen efforts to ensure that no child is left behind.
