The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening inclusive education and ensuring that every child, regardless of ability, has access to quality education and opportunities to realise their full potential.
Student Presents Hand-Crafted Portrait to Permanent Secretary
The commitment was reiterated on Monday when Michael Oluwadamilare, a student of Sango Senior Secondary (Inclusive) School, Sango-Ota, presented a hand-crafted portrait to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs. Abisola Dokunmu-Adegbite, during a visit to the Ministry’s headquarters in Alausa, Ikeja.
The portrait, which bore a striking resemblance to the Permanent Secretary, drew admiration from officials at the Ministry and highlighted the student’s artistic talent.
Demonstrating the True Impact of Inclusive Education
The presentation also served as a demonstration of the impact of inclusive education, reinforcing the message that disability does not define a person’s potential and that learners with disabilities can excel when provided with the necessary support, encouragement and opportunities.
Permanent Secretary Commends Student and School Management
Receiving the portrait, Dokunmu-Adegbite commended Oluwadamilare for the impressive artwork and praised the teachers and management of Sango Senior Secondary (Inclusive) School for nurturing the talents of learners in an inclusive learning environment.
She said the student’s creativity, dedication and skill reflect the importance of creating opportunities that enable every child to discover, develop and maximise their unique abilities, irrespective of physical, sensory or learning challenges.
Expanding Access So No Child Is Left Behind
The Permanent Secretary reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to expanding access to inclusive education, describing it as a key component of the state’s vision of ensuring that no child is left behind.
According to her, the government will continue to provide the support and enabling environment required for all learners to succeed, while promoting equal access to quality education across the state.
Transforming Lives and Empowering Every Learner
She noted that the student’s presentation demonstrates the transformative impact of inclusive education and the value of investing in the abilities of every learner.
Dokunmu-Adegbite added that when children are given equal opportunities to learn and develop their talents, they are able to achieve their full potential and make meaningful contributions to society.
She reaffirmed the state’s resolve to sustain investments in inclusive education and other initiatives aimed at empowering every learner to become a productive and valued member of society.
