Lagos Censors Board Mourns Security Officer Killed in Lekki Cinema Attack

The Lagos State Film and Video Censors Board (LSFVCB) has expressed sadness over the death of a security officer during a security incident at a cinema facility in Lekki, Lagos State.

The Board extended its condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased security officer, while wishing the person injured during the incident a speedy and full recovery.

The incident, which occurred at Filmhouse IMAX Cinemas in Lekki on August 29, 2026, involved a man who reportedly attacked two security personnel after being denied access to the cinema’s car park.

The Lagos State Government, through the LSFVCB, said the incident was a reminder of the need for effective safety and security measures at cinemas and other entertainment facilities across the state.

In a statement signed by the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the LSFVCB, Mrs Adebukola A. Agbaminoja, the Board said the safety of cinema patrons, workers and other stakeholders in the entertainment industry remained a priority.

LSFVCB Condoles Family, Urges Public to Avoid Speculation

The Board said it received the news of the security incident with deep sadness and sympathised with everyone affected by the incident.

LSFVCB extended its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the security officer who lost his life during the incident.

It also wished the injured person a speedy and full recovery, while expressing concern over the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Board urged members of the public to remain calm and refrain from speculation while the relevant security agencies continue their investigation into the incident.

It also advised the public against circulating unverified information, stressing the importance of allowing the authorities to establish the facts surrounding the incident.

Board Calls for Stronger Security at Cinemas Across Lagos

The LSFVCB said the incident highlighted the need for cinema operators and other entertainment facilities to maintain effective safety and security measures.

The Board called on cinema operators and industry stakeholders to regularly review their security arrangements and strengthen measures designed to protect patrons, employees and other people within their facilities.

It also urged operators to improve their emergency-response measures and work closely with relevant security agencies to address potential threats.

According to the Board, stronger collaboration between entertainment facilities and security agencies is necessary to ensure that incidents are identified and handled promptly.

The LSFVCB said the safety and well-being of cinema patrons, employees and other stakeholders remained of utmost importance, adding that it would continue to support measures aimed at improving safety across Lagos State’s entertainment industry
