The Lagos State Resilience Office (LASRO) has intensified efforts to protect the state’s food supply chain against future shocks. In a strategic move on Tuesday, the agency partnered with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems to review and refine the Ministry’s Business Continuity Plan (BCP).
The initiative aims to ensure that food distribution remains stable, even in the face of unexpected crises or economic stresses.
Strengthening Institutional Resilience
The review session, held in Alausa, focused on identifying gaps in current operational frameworks. Led by the Lagos State Chief Resilience Officer, Dr. Folayinka Dania who was represented by Mr. Olayinka Oyekan, Assistant Chief Education Officer the team analyzed how various departments within the Ministry can sustain critical operations during emergencies.
The updated BCP is specifically designed to reflect the modern realities of the Ministry’s core functions, providing a clear roadmap for recovery procedures and operational steadiness.
Lessons from the Past
A significant portion of the engagement involved analyzing the state’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants examined the vulnerabilities exposed during that period to better anticipate future shocks. By identifying these potential threats now, LASRO intends to mitigate their impact on essential service delivery before they occur.
“Our priority is to ensure that every critical sector in Lagos State has robust continuity strategies,” stated Mr. Olayinka Oyekan during the session. “The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems is central to food security, and strengthening its preparedness is vital to protecting residents against shocks and stresses.”

By embedding continuity strategies into the Ministry’s DNA, LASRO is working to ensure that the delivery of vital services to Lagosians remains uninterrupted, regardless of the challenges the city may face.
