Life After Abuse Foundation (LAAF), in partnership with Esther’s Company Fellowship (ECF), has donated relief packages to 2,000 male inmates at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre, Lagos, as part of its 4th annual Hope for Christmas Prison Outreach.
The outreach, held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, aimed to restore dignity, provide essential support, and offer psychosocial care to incarcerated men during the festive season. The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by both organisations to ensure that vulnerable populations are not forgotten during periods often associated with family, care, and celebration.
Speaking during the programme, Edinyanga Enang, who gave the opening remarks, stressed the importance of compassion and empathy, noting that incarceration should not strip individuals of their humanity. She said community engagement and acts of kindness remain critical, especially during festive periods.
The core of the outreach was the distribution of relief packages containing essential toiletries and personal care items, intended to improve inmates’ daily living conditions. Beyond material support, the programme also addressed emotional and mental wellbeing through psychosocial interventions.
Inmates participated in sensitisation sessions on healthy masculinity, empowerment talks, and were offered access to free therapy and mental health support. These sessions were designed to promote self-awareness, resilience, and positive behavioural change, with a focus on life beyond incarceration.
The programme featured worship and prayer sessions, empowerment talks, and a word ministration, alongside structured mental health discussions that encouraged emotional reflection and coping strategies. Facilitators included volunteers and professionals drawn from both organisations.
Founder and Executive Director of Life After Abuse Foundation, Halima Layeni, alongside Munirat Layeni, Convener of Esther’s Company Fellowship, expressed gratitude to donors, partners, and volunteers whose contributions made the outreach possible. They also appreciated the Ikoyi Prison authorities for granting access and providing a warm reception.
LAAF and ECF reaffirmed their commitment to holistic humanitarian interventions that prioritise dignity, healing, and empowerment for vulnerable groups, including those within correctional facilities.
