The Kaduna State Government is crowd-sourcing its State Development plan. The Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, made the announcement in Abuja during his keynote address at the dinner to welcome UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon.

El-Rufai explained that “as we prepare the first annual budget since we took office, we have announced that it will be zero-based and that our revenues will be managed on the Treasury Single Account framework.

“Our budget priorities will be drawn from our state development strategy, the evolution of which we have decided to crowd-source to give more people the opportunity to contribute to Kaduna State’s greatness, starting from tomorrow.

“We have our source documents, including our Restoration Programme and various sectoral position papers, but we believe that broadening the base of engagement will both enrich our plans and deepen mass ownership.”

Following the government’s decision to adopt the crowd-sourcing approach, entries have been invited for the “My Own Kaduna Competition”.

Explaining the details of the competition, Budget and Planning Commissioner Muhammad Sani Abdullahi said that “development plans in Nigeria have hitherto been the exclusive preserve of technical experts, civil servants and consultants. This year, Kaduna State will change that.”

The commissioner disclosed that the competition is open to any interested person to contribute to the Kaduna State Development Strategy, 2016-2021.
