In a strategic move to refine Nigeria’s electoral processes, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), through its Training Department, has concluded a comprehensive Post-Election Training Audit (PETA) and Pre-Election Training Assessment (PRETA) workshop.
The two-day intensive session, held from Wednesday, April 29 to Thursday, April 30, 2026, at the Silver Green Hotel in Gudu, Abuja, served as both a retrospective analysis of recent polls and a foundational planning phase for upcoming off-cycle governorship elections.
Auditing Past Performance for Future Excellence
The primary objective of the workshop was to audit the implementation and management of training activities conducted during the 2025 Anambra State Governorship Election and the 2026 FCT Area Council Elections. By scrutinizing these past events, the Commission aims to identify systemic strengths and weaknesses in how ad-hoc staff and permanent officials were prepared for field duties.
Strategic Readiness for Ekiti and Osun 2026
Beyond the audit, the workshop transitioned into a Pre-Election Training Assessment (PRETA) specifically tailored for the 2026 Ekiti and Osun States Governorship Elections. This proactive approach ensures that the management of training activities for these high-stakes elections aligns with current technological advancements and operational realities.
The program fostered high-level synergy, bringing together leadership and technical staff from The Electoral Institute (TEI) alongside key departments, including Electoral Operations, Planning & Monitoring, ICT, and Human Resources.
Collaborative Problem Solving
The workshop featured a robust exchange of ideas between national headquarters and state-level leadership. Heads of Operations and State Training Officers from Anambra, FCT, Ekiti, and Osun provided localized insights into the practical challenges faced on the ground.
Throughout the technical sessions, participants engaged in spirited debates regarding technological integration (ICT), logistics, and personnel management. The session concluded with the identification of critical bottlenecks and the drafting of actionable recommendations intended to streamline the training architecture for the Nigerian electoral cycle.
