In a strategic move to bolster the communication wing of the Nigeria Police Force, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has approved the appointment of DCP Anthony Okon Placid as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO).
The announcement, released on March 8, 2026, marks a significant transition at the Force Headquarters as Placid takes over the mantle of managing the police image nationwide.
A Distinguished Career in Service
DCP Placid is described as a seasoned officer with a robust background spanning administration, operations, intelligence, and international peacekeeping. A native of Nsit Ibom, Akwa Ibom State, Placid joined the Force in 1996 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and was commissioned in 1998.
His academic credentials are as diverse as his operational experience. He holds a degree in Geography and Regional Planning, a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy, and has furthered his legal expertise with an LL.B from the National Open University of Nigeria.
Global Expertise and Peacekeeping
The new FPRO brings a wealth of international exposure to the role. Having served as the Chief of Training for the African Union Mission in Sudan and the Head of Training and Development for the UN Mission in Darfur, Placid is an expert in International Humanitarian Law, Human Rights, and Civilian Protection.
Outgoing FPRO, Ag. ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, highlighted the caliber of his successor in the official transition statement:
“DCP Anthony Placid is a distinguished graduate of the Senior Executive Course (SEC 47) of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS). His induction as a Member of the National Institute (mni) on December 13, 2025, underscores his readiness for this high-level strategic responsibility.”
Extensive Operational Footprint
Before this appointment, Placid held several key positions, including PPRO roles in Adamawa State and the Police Staff College, Jos, Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in locations such as Calabar, Bakassi, and Gembu, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations) in both Akwa Ibom and Kogi States, and African Union Election Security Adviser.
Professional Memberships and Personal Life
Beyond his tactical roles, Placid is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and a certified trainer for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
On a personal note, the new Force spokesperson is an avid sportsman who enjoys football, basketball, and table tennis. He is happily married with children and is known for his approachable nature and engagement with the public.
