The Nigeria Police Force is set to introduce a new mobile application and a dedicated communication network as the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, moves to expand the use of technology in police operations.
In a statement signed by CSP Ani Iniedu, Force Public Relations Officer, on August 24, 2026, the Force said Disu will formally launch the NPF Vigilant App and MTN Closed User Group (CUG) Network on September 1 at the Nigeria Police Resource Centre in Abuja..
The two platforms are expected to improve how police personnel communicate with one another and how members of the public interact with the Force.
App to improve police-public communication
The NPF Vigilant App will provide a platform for members of the public to engage with the police and share information, according to the Force.
The MTN CUG Network will serve a different purpose, providing police personnel with a dedicated communication channel for faster and easier contact within the Force.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, said the initiatives were part of efforts to improve police operations through technology.
Iniedu said the projects would also help strengthen coordination among personnel and improve the delivery of police services.
Police turn to technology
The planned launch is part of the police leadership’s wider push to bring more technology into its operations.
The Force said the partnership with MTN and the development of the Vigilant App would support its efforts to improve communication and make policing more responsive.
For the police, the focus is on using the new platforms to make information flow easier, both within the Force and between the police and the public.
The launch is scheduled for Tuesday, September 1, in Abuja.
