The IBA FOUNDATION extended their fight against malaria to Ajegunle , a surburb, and a ghetto in Lagos on the 22nd of April in commemoration with the World Malaria Day 2017 theming the advocacy #KickOutMalaria.
The programme started with education and enlightenment of the inhabitants about causes, effects and prevention of the dreaded killer disease, malaria.
It did not stop at this, clean up exercise and distribution of drugs and mosquito nets was extensively effected.
The Baale of Oke Ira, chief Taiwo Hassan Olayemi, in his remark, said the programme is a laudable one, and that it will help create a clean environment that will make it impossible for the disease, malaria, to thrive or be active. He wholeheartedly supported the “kick out malaria” programme in Ajegunle and environs’.
The executive director of the initiative, Oluwamayowa Adepeju , in the same vein, said the aim of the foundation is to help create a malaria free environment, through clean environment and also to mark the World Malaria’s Day.
On the choice of Ajegunle, the visionary young man, explained that Ajegunle and environ became a choice because it is a ghetto. The ghetto needs cleaning up, too, he reasoned.
The foundation’s source of fund, the executive director, disclosed are Australia High Commission in Abuja, O James footwear, and Uchendu signatures, that was labelled a supporter in the community.
In his closing speech, he enjoined the local government, not to wait for the state government before embarking on operation clean your environment, in order to kick out malaria from the community, as the disease kills faster than ever imagine.
A beneficiary Eucharia Iwu thanked the organisers of the project. She opined that the initiative will bring about a clean environment, and definitely healthy living spiritually and otherwise, since the adage goes that “cleanliness is next to godliness”.
Another beneficiary, Mrs. Iyabode Francis expressed her joy to have gotten drugs and mosquito net as a result of the medical examination carried out on her. She assured the organisers that they will improve on the cleaning of the environment with all seriousness to kicking out malaria.
