Senator Francis Fadahunsi has left the Osun State Police Command headquarters in Osogbo after several hours of questioning over alleged inciting comments made during an APC campaign rally in Ilesa.

Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, arrived at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on Wednesday after responding to an invitation from the police.

He was questioned over a campaign video in which a remark he made at an All Progressives Congress (APC) rally in Ilesa was interpreted as calling on his supporters to “kill” members of the rival Accord Party.

The senator later left the police headquarters with members of his entourage. His departure was captured in a video shared by News Central.

Police Had Ordered Senator to Appear

The development followed a directive by the Osun State Police Command on Tuesday asking Fadahunsi to report to the SCID over the alleged statement.

The command said the comment was threatening and capable of inciting violence, particularly with the governorship election only days away.

The police had expressed concern that such remarks could further raise tension in the state ahead of Saturday’s election.

It was, however, not immediately clear what transpired during the senator’s questioning or whether the police would take further action.

Neither Fadahunsi nor the Osun State Police Command had issued an official statement on the outcome of the interrogation as of the time of filing this report.

Osun Election Tension

Fadahunsi’s questioning comes amid heightened political activity in Osun as parties make their final push ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

Incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is seeking a second term, with the APC, Accord Party and other parties also fielding candidates for the poll.

Security agencies have been placed on alert across the state as political parties conclude their campaigns and prepare for the election.

Fadahunsi remains an active figure in the APC’s campaign in Osun and has played a prominent role in the party’s activities ahead of the poll.
