President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered immediate disengagement of former pension reform committee chairman, Mr Abdulrasheed Maina from the federal civil service .
In a memo to the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, the President equally demanded a full report of the circumstances of Maina’s recall and posting to the Ministry of Interior.
Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President, (Media and Publicity) quoted the president to have said that the report is to be submitted to the office of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari, before the end of work today, Monday, October 23, 2017.
The President also said “the disengagement is with immediate effect”.
Sources had hinted the online newspaper, Premium Times, about the secret reinstatement and promotion the fugitive former chairman of the Presidential Task Team on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina, into the civil service..
The news of the reinstatement first was said to have filtered through a congratulatory message for Mr. Maina by a group called League of Civil Society Organisations which commended the federal government for the reinstatement.
Mr. Maina was in 2013 dismissed by the Federal Civil Service Commission following a recommendation by the Office of the Head of Service after he was accused of leading a massive pension fraud scheme amounting to more than N100 billion.
A retired director in the Office of the Head of Service familiar with the matter said recalling Mr. Maina was an affront on the rule of law.
