The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State says it will not rush to congratulate Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election, insisting that the party is still reviewing the results and conduct of the August 15 governorship election.

The Director-General of the APC Governorship Campaign Committee, Oluwole Oke, stated this during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Monday.

Oke said the party disagreed with the declaration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which announced Adeleke as the winner of the election.

INEC declared Adeleke winner after he polled 511,067 votes to defeat the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who secured 444,815 votes. Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came third with 17,180 votes.

Adeleke won in 19 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won in 11 LGAs.

Osun APC Withholds Congratulations to Adeleke

Oke said the APC would not be pressured into congratulating Adeleke until it had completed its review of the election.

He said the position of the Osun APC campaign team was different from that of Bola Tinubu, who had congratulated Adeleke following INEC’s declaration.

According to Oke, the party was directly involved in the election and needed to examine the process and available records before taking a position.

“We won’t be under any sort of pressure to easily reach out to congratulate Senator Ademola Adeleke,” Oke said.

He maintained that the party believed Adeleke did not secure the highest number of valid votes, adding that the APC would make its position known after completing its assessment.

Party Reviews Election Results

Oke said the APC had commenced an audit of the election and directed its agents to submit copies of relevant result sheets for examination.

He said the party was inspecting Forms EC8A, EC8B and EC8C as part of the review of the election results.

The party’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, also said the APC was studying results from all 332 wards across the state.

Oke said the review would cover the entire electoral process, including the pre-election period and the conduct of the poll, before the party decides on its next course of action.

He added that the APC would announce its official position after concluding the review and examining the relevant records.
