Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has urged residents to continue supporting the state government, performing their civic duties, and remaining united to build a productive and peaceful future for the Pacesetter State. The call was made in his New Year broadcast on Thursday, 1st January 2026.
Governor Makinde expressed gratitude to the people of Oyo State for their resilience, trust, and support in 2025, a year he described as challenging yet not crushing. “2025 tested our resolve. 2026 will reward our preparation,” he said, adding that the government alone cannot build the future the state desires, emphasizing that collective cooperation and civic responsibility are essential.
Reflecting on the outgone year, Makinde highlighted several achievements, including the commissioning of key infrastructure projects in Ibadan and significant progress on the 110km Ibadan Circular Road. He also noted the state’s strides in transforming the economy from a consumptive one to a productive economy, boosted by the Oyo State International Agribusiness Summit and the International Tourism Summit.
Despite nationwide challenges, including insecurity and economic pressures, the governor said Oyo State remained steady. “We were hard pressed on every side, but we were not crushed,” he affirmed. He added that governance focused on systems, long-term stability, and inclusive development, rather than short-term political distractions.
Makinde also spoke on social welfare, noting that salaries for civil and public servants were paid on time each month and topped up with a 13th-month salary in December 2025. Preventive healthcare, education, and community wellbeing continued to be prioritized.
Looking ahead, the governor expressed confidence that the 2026 Budget of Economic Expansion would set the stage for further economic growth, infrastructure completion, investment attraction, and job creation. “Government alone cannot build the future we desire. We ask for continued cooperation, civic responsibility, and unity. We ask that together, we protect what we are building, because progress is strongest when it is shared,” he said.
Governor Makinde concluded by wishing all residents a prosperous, peaceful, and productive new year. “May this new year bring renewed strength, peace, and prosperity to every home in our dear State. Happy New Year, and God bless Oyo State.”
