In a bid to enhance State workers’ welfare, Lagos State Government has paid the sum of 2.2billion naira into the Retirement Savings Account of six hundred and fifty-eight retirees in the State.
Director-General, Lagos State Pension Board, LASPEB, Folashade Onanuga, who made this known, today, at the Eighteenth Retirement Benefit Bond Certificate presentation ceremony, said the gesture signified the strong commitment of the State government to the implementation and sustainability of the Contributory Pension Scheme.
According to her, workers who had served the State and retired five years ago, have all been paid their entitlements, stressing that, government has continued to be at the forefront of pension commission in Nigeria.
Onanuga, noted that, most retired employees at the Federal level are also owed entitlements, but in Lagos State, all terminal entitlements owed, have been paid into the pensioners’ account.
The LASPEB boss, said, parastatals in the State have been directed to give priority to ensuring that contributions of their employees are credited into their Retirement Savings Account, adding that, the Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, has promised to make budgetary provisions to clear outstanding shortfalls of pension scheme.
