World Trade Organization Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala issued a public warning regarding a new AI-manipulated video circulating online.

Addressing the public via her verified X account, Okonjo-Iweala confirmed that the fraudulent content is currently being investigated by the relevant authorities. She emphasized that she does not maintain a presence on most popular social media platforms, warning followers that any content appearing under her name on those sites is a scam.

“As I repeatedly said, I never post anything on Instagram, Facebook or WhatsApp. Anything emanating from these sources with my image is not from me. I only post on Twitter/X. I just don’t want people to be duped,” Okonjo-Iweala said.

The alert follows a rise in deepfake technology used to impersonate high-profile officials for financial scams. Okonjo-Iweala urged the public to remain vigilant and rely solely on her official X profile for authentic updates.
