Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the inauguration of Guinea-Conakry’s President-elect, Mamadi Doumbouya.
The inauguration ceremony is scheduled to hold on Saturday, January 17, at the GLC Stadium, Nongo, Conakry, following Doumbouya’s election victory.
Shettima’s participation, according to the Presidency, underscores Nigeria’s commitment to regional leadership, economic partnership, and global engagement under President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda.
The visit also reflects Nigeria’s leadership role within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), particularly in supporting Guinea’s return to constitutional order after a four-year political transition.
Beyond diplomatic solidarity, the engagement is expected to strengthen bilateral trade relations between Nigeria and Guinea. Recent figures show that Nigerian exports to Guinea mainly manufactured goods and agricultural products have increased to $3.29 million.
After the inauguration, the Vice President will proceed to Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, to attend the 56th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF 2026), scheduled to take place from January 19 to January 23, 2026.
The 2026 World Economic Forum, themed “A Spirit of Dialogue,” will bring together leaders from government, business, civil society, and the scientific and cultural communities to promote collaboration and future-focused solutions to global challenges.
Key discussions at the forum will centre on emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, next-generation biotechnology, and advanced energy systems, with emphasis on their responsible deployment to drive inclusive growth, workforce development, and sustainable development.
During the forum, Vice President Shettima is expected to engage global leaders and investors on Nigeria’s economic reform agenda, investment opportunities, and Africa’s role in shaping a resilient and inclusive global future.
The Vice President is expected to return to Nigeria at the conclusion of his engagements in Davos.
