With support from the European Union-funded ‘Support to Anti-Corruption in Nigeria’s project being implemented by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, the drive against corruption in Nigeria is expected to assume a top-gear as the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PAC) and the National Assembly (NASS) are organizing a workshop to take stock of the existing anti-corruption legal framework and pending amendments with a view to tighten the noose against corrupt acts.
During the workshop members of the National Assembly will be sensitized on Nigeria’s anti-corruption framework and the importance and scope of required-long pending amendments. These include the reintroduction of relevant anti-corruption bills like the Proceeds of Crime Bill, Witness Protection Bill and Whistle Blowers’ Bill.
New proposals to be discussed will include Access to Asset Declaration of Public Officers’ Bill, NEITI Act 2007 Repeal and Re-enactment Bill, Public Procurement Act Amendment Bill and the Administration of Justice Bill. About 300 legislators from the National Assembly are expected at the workshop.
