The United Nations Human Rights will be holding a special rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary and arbitrary executions in Nigeria.
The event, which would be held at the United Nations Information Centre, 17 Alfred Rewane, Lagos, is aimed at obtaining first hand information on “violations of the right to life, committed by State and non-State actors” in Nigeria.
The rapporteur would happen when “Special Rapporteur Dr. Agnès Callamard is undertaking an official country visit to Nigeria from 19 August to 2 September 2019.”
A statement from the Secretariat – Mandate of the Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary reads, “The aim of the visit is to obtain first-hand information on the situation of violations of the right to life, committed by State and non-State actors, the investigations carried out into those violations and outcomes thereof.
“She will then report on her observations to the Human Rights Council and propose recommendations to improve situations identified as matters of concern.’
The Special Rapporteur will also meet with Government authorities, civil society representatives, victims and families of extra-judicial activities in Nigeria.
