Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikorodu, under Education District II, Lagos State, has received a mobile clinic from the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) to strengthen healthcare services for students and staff of the school.
The facility was presented to the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary of Education District II, Mr. Omotayo Layemo Sanni, at the District Headquarters in Maryland by the Principal of Oriwu Senior Model College, Mrs. Iyabo Elushakin.
The presentation was witnessed by the Junior School Principal, Mr. M. A. Raheem, as the school received the facility as part of efforts to improve healthcare support within the school environment.

UBEC is a Federal Government agency responsible for coordinating the implementation of the Universal Basic Education Programme across Nigeria and providing support to states and local governments for the development of basic education.
The provision of the mobile clinic is expected to complement existing efforts to create a safe and supportive learning environment where students can have access to basic healthcare when the need arises.
Facility to Provide Prompt Medical Care for Students and Staff
The mobile clinic is expected to provide students and staff of Oriwu Senior Model College with easier access to medical attention within the school environment.
With the facility available, students who develop minor health challenges during school hours can receive attention without necessarily leaving the school premises to seek basic medical care elsewhere.

The clinic is also expected to assist the school in responding to health-related situations that may require immediate attention before further medical intervention is sought.
The availability of the facility could also help reduce interruptions to students’ academic activities, particularly in situations where a health concern can be handled within the school.
The intervention therefore provides the school with an additional facility for attending to the health needs of its community while supporting efforts to maintain a conducive environment for learning.
Education District II Commends Federal Government, UBEC Intervention
Speaking at the presentation, the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District II, Mr. Omotayo Layemo Sanni, expressed appreciation to the Federal Government and UBEC for providing the mobile clinic.
Sanni described the facility as a welcome development that would provide timely medical assistance to students and staff of Oriwu Senior Model College.
He said the clinic would contribute to the health and well-being of the school community by providing an avenue for students and staff to receive medical attention when necessary.
The TG/PS also noted that the facility would not be limited to the immediate needs of Oriwu Senior Model College, as it could serve as a useful healthcare resource for the wider Education District II community when required.
He said the intervention would support the efforts of the district to provide an environment where students can learn under safer and better conditions.
District Pledges Proper Utilisation and Maintenance of Facility
Sanni reaffirmed the commitment of Education District II to ensuring that the mobile clinic is properly utilised and maintained.
He said the district would ensure that the facility is used for the purpose for which it was provided and that it continues to serve the healthcare needs of the school community.
Proper maintenance of the mobile clinic will also be important in ensuring that the facility remains functional and available to students and staff when needed.
The intervention is expected to complement the Lagos State Government’s efforts to improve conditions in schools across the state, particularly in areas that affect students’ welfare and learning.
For Oriwu Senior Model College, the arrival of the mobile clinic adds another layer of healthcare support to the school and is expected to make basic medical attention more accessible to its students and staff.
