The People’s Candidate (TPC), an initiative of The Osasu Show/TOS TV was created for the sole purpose of maximising the democratic rights of Nigerians and ensuring that power is given back to the people.
This initiative is in collaboration with Connected Development (CODE).
TPC is a stage that will upset the one-sided discretionary process by benefiting all Nigerians, regardless of political association, a chance to assign and vote their reasonable presidential contender for the different political parties in 2019. Every chosen one must meet the essential criteria in Section 131 of the Nigerian Constitution as altered in 1999 which states:
131. A person shall be qualified for election to the office of President if
HE IS A CITIZEN OF NIGERIA BY BIRTH;
HE HAS ATTAINED THE AGE OF FORTY YEARS;
HE IS A MEMBER OF A POLITICAL PARTY AND IS SPONSORED BY THAT POLITICAL PARTY; AND
HE HAS BEEN EDUCATED UP TO AT LEAST SCHOOL CERTIFICATE OR ITS EQUIVALENT
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has booked the following presidential races for February 2019. As it ordinarily happens amid elections, a chosen few party pioneers in Nigeria (in contrast with a great many qualified voters) assemble to choose who rises as the political applicants of their separate parties. The general population are then left to pick candidates of their choice.
Assigning of candidates has ended on January first, 2018 and the voting procedure will begin from that point. The objective of this activity is to guarantee the individual that rises as President in 2019 is a genuine impression of the general population’s desire instead of the eccentricities of a chosen few party pioneers.
It is hoped this move will reduce voter apathy and boost voters confidence, disrupt the normative behaviour of a select few party leaders from dictating the people’s candidate, make the candidate selection process transparent, democratic and equitable, arouse the interest of Nigerians on the activities of government, give a voice to the masses, and engage the masses in the entire value chain of the political process.
